And here’s to something different and very exciting. Those of you who never thought you would take part in the making of a film and never expected to see your name in the credits of an action dark comedy, looks like you’ve been mistaken. Christoffer Aldell’s Cockroaches is one of the very few upcoming movies to see filmmaking as a team process. And when Aldell and his crew say “team”, they actually mean “team”. They mean every you and every me that may have a bit of money (anything from $10 to $10,000) to donate, anyone who feels like becoming involved in a fascinating crime comedy and rub it on Guy Richie’s face, anyone who wishes to do something as simple as to promote this event in any way possible (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc).
Cockroaches has just launched its KickStarter page and is ready to have us all involved, each in a different way. Donations are of course much appreciated, but more than anything, this is a film that can bring us all together, creating — why not? — one of the best dark comedies we’ve ever seen. It is up to us and we all have a saying, so let’s have fun with it.
This is a fast paced style crime movie, packed with crazy violence and cartoon-like characters. Gritty imagery and curse words have a prominent place of course and the script has been re-drafted ten times so far, making absolutely sure the film is as amusingly offensive and politically incorrect as we would all like it. Although the style we’ve seen before, we’re far from having had enough of it. Besides, the premise is highly original, the stars attached to the project very talented, the script extremely well-written and the team behind it, massive. As it includes all of us.
The film will tell the story of a bunch of mad criminals who are willing to do anything in order to be let in on the biggest ransom opportunity of all time — the kidnapping of the Pope from the Vatican. A big part of the cast has been announced already, and it includes Tommy Lister as “Carl the Florist” (The Dark Knight, The Fifth Element, Jackie Brown), Luke Massy as “Petri” (Thor, Green Street Hooligans 2, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle), Robert Miano as “Francis” (Donnie Brasco, Fast & Furious, Mysteria), Maria Olsen as “Susan” (Percy Jackson & the Olympians, Paranormal Activity 3, The Lords of Salem), Zach McGowan as “Johnny Slim” (Shameless, Terminator Salvation), Ryan de Quintal as “David” (Medium, Superbad, A Separate Life), Robin Zamora as “Taranto” (The Symphony, Betty I Am), David Ury as “Edward” (Shoot’em Up, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Breaking Bad).
Co
ckroaches is embracing everybody’s involvement. Writer-director Christoffer Aldell and the people working with him have shown a great deal of commitment to and passion for this project and are doing everything in their power to develop a black comedy that will say something new, show something different, be entirely unique. They’re asking for every film-lover to join them, in order to ensure that Cockroaches speaks on behalf of all of us and entertains each and every one of us.
